About Mystic Melody... Mystic Melody is a closed cattery. This means that we do not provide stud services from our males, and only use them for our own lines. We have selected a small group of very ethical and wonderful Siberian breeders that we work with to improve our lines and they are the only ones we sell breeder cats to. Outside this select group of people, we do not offer stud services or breeder kittens. We breed very carefully and only with as goal to improve our lines. We keep our males exclusive for that particular reason. If you are looking for a breeder cat/kitten we are more than happy to refer you to a cattery that does offer these cats/kittens. We invite you to read the "available kittens" section, where you can read all about our process of re-homing our kittens.
Who we are... We are a strictly home based, hobby cattery that is a labor of love. We live in North Georgia and our family besides our Siberians consists of 5 humans, 2 dogs and 3 cats. My husband and I are usually in charge of this bunch. Our 3 children are fabulous and intense cat lovers that help us wherever they can. I have been an animal rescuer for years. Owning a cattery has always been a dream of mine, but due to the problems of overpopulation in the USA I could never get myself to start one. Instead my husband and I devoted 7 years of our lives to saving animals out of shelters, nurse them back to health, rehabilitate them and find them loving permanent homes. After all these years, I kept dreaming about having my own cattery, and eventually with a lot of friendly persuasion from my friend Ilona from Bengal Cattery Ifness in The Netherlands, we decided to take the jump and do it. This has resulted in Siberian Cattery Mystic Melody. Our years of experience in rescue come in very handy in properly caring for our cats and kittens. It also taught us how to properly screen and to match the right kitten with the right family. Our cattery is registered in TICA, ACFA and CFA.
How we live...We are not a commercial breeder and we don't have a separate building for our cats. They have free run of the house for the most part unless there are times when the males and females can not be together. In our basement we have a separate cat room where they can play and throughout the house we have plenty of cat toys, scratchers and cat trees to keep them happy. We don't isolate our cats. If they need to be separated we can do that within our house without having to isolate them. Our house is divided with glass french doors so they can see each other but not get to each other. They will still all be living in a family area where there are people around. That way they still get plenty of love and attention. We have several secure outdoor runs that are accessible from varies places in the house. The cats can go in and out as they please. Our litters are born in our nursery. This is a separate small room away from the daily noise in the house. When the kittens are born, mom has the necessary peace and quiet to care for her kittens. By keeping them in a separate room we also reduce the risk of illness and it is the best place to keep them safe. During the time the kittens are in the nursery, they get plenty of human contact. Once they are about 6 weeks they will leave the nursery and enter the world of vacuum cleaners, radio's, kids and other animals. By the time they go to their new homes they are extremely well socialized. You can follow our daily life though our blog.
Our goals... The goal of Cattery Mystic Melody is the breed development and improvement of the Traditional Siberian cat. This means that we only bring Siberians into our breeding program that are exemplary of the Traditional Siberian's look, health and wonderfully endearing personality. We don't breed just to produce kittens to sell as pets. Conform our goals we only want to breed kittens that are the highest possible quality. Not every kitten will turn out as show/breeder quality, and because of that, we only have pet or show alter kittens available for re-homing. Kittens that are exceptional show or breeder quality remain within our breeding program, or the breeding program of people we work with to improve our lines. We don't have kittens available at all times but you can find our plans and litters here. Our decision to breed is based on the wellbeing of our cats, our need for showing/breeding cats and our ability to find loving and permanent homes for our kittens. To help us with our breeding plans we keep a wait list. Even though we understand waiting might not be convenient for you, quite often it is worth it!
Ethics... As ethical breeders we are committed to doing whatever we can to ensure the health of our cats and kittens and to make sure they are in the best possible environment both with us and in their new homes. Our cats are checked by a vet regularly. All have been checked for FeLV/FIV and FIP and they get annual check ups. At age 2-3 years old all our breeding cats will be screened for HCM and PKD. Any cat with health problems will be removed from our breeding program. They will be spayed or neutered immediately. Most likely they'll live out their lives with us, unless it is in the cat's best interest to go to another loving permanent home. In that case the cat will be available as a retired breeder. To ensure the health of our lines, all our kittens are sold with a 2 year health guarantee against genetics diseases.
Cattery visits... We welcome cattery visitors, but we limit visits to people on our wait list. Visitors in the house can be very stressful on the cats, especially if we have kittens as the moms are very protective of their youngsters. We ask that you contact us prior to visiting and we will try to set up a convenient time so you can visit our cattery and spend time with our cats and kittens. Due to both my husband and I having full time jobs and 3 children, we limit the visitors to those who have a deposit down for a kitten from our cattery and need to do an allergy test prior to committing to buying a kitten. It is time-wise not normally feasible for us to accommodate every visitation request. However you are always welcome to come visit us at shows. On our show news page you can see where we will be exhibiting and who we will have with us.
Our cattery is pretty much another word for our house. Our cats all live as a part of our family. Please know that when you visit us, you will be visiting our home and our family including other animals. Besides our siberians we have 3 other pet cats and 2 dogs. Therefore allergy testing needs to take place in a
closed area such as a car, as testing in our house doesn't have any use
with other animals and other cat breeds around. Unfortunately since all our animals have free run of the house, we do not have a separate area for allergy testing but our car. Feel free to contact us to make an appointment!
